2019-2020 Highlights

  • October 19, 2019 Four members participated in the Bethune-Height Recognition Program.

  • December 15, 2019 Members participated in community service Sip & Paint at the Fauquier County Nursing facility

  • NDS participated in NOVA Project Giveback at Gum Springs Community Center, where members helped prepare boxes for families and make delivery of the boxes to families in need.

  • NDS volunteered at Grace Church in Springfield, VA and prepared and served dinner for participants in the Parenting Education Program.

  • NDS members prepared 35 toiletry bags (5 male bags, 15 female bags, and 5 children bags) for the homeless that were donated to the First Baptist Church in Manassas, VA.

  • December 8, 2019, NDS collaborated with Loudoun County Child Protective Services Agency for their Adopt a Family Program to assist families in need for the holidays and donated close to 60 gifts to the family, including items requested by the family and gift cards.

  • January 21, 2020 NDS supported The Good News Community Kitchen by providing canned items to assist with restocking shelves for the Meals-To-Go program.

  • July 8, 2020, NDS supported The Good News Community Kitchen by providing diapers, baby wipes, and feminine products during this pandemic, canned items to assist with restocking shelves for the Meals-To-Go program

  • NDS also assists other community groups in education programs and attends community meetings, school board meetings, and any meetings pertaining to educational issues.

  • October 5, 2019 NDS collaborated with P.A.G.E. Inc. (Prosper Adapt Grow Empower) by donating to the collection of college care packages for students attending school in the fall

  • July 1, 2020 NDS NDS collaborated with P.A.G.E. Inc. (Prosper Adapt Grow Empower) by donating to the collection of college care packages for students attending school.

  • February 8, 2020 A few NDS sisters attended the reception of Dr. Yemonja Smalls’ “Its Complicated,” a visual examination of the relationship, at the Center for the Arts in Manassas, VA in honor of Black History Month.

  • We had a guest speaker, Charmaine Tuck, who facilitated a discussion on the health aspects of breast cancer awareness.

  • On January 26, 2020, our instructor, LaToya Peterson-Renfrow, led the members in a group Z-gogo exercise class to start the year off on the right foot. 

  • October 5, 2019 NDS members participated in the 18th Georgiana Thomas Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation in Washington DC, for their annual Margaret E. Anderson 5K Breast Cancer Walk

  • The New Dominion Section (NDS) continues to pursue this mission with one of its many initiatives: giving scholarships to graduating high school seniors in our service area. 

  • NDS-NCNW announces its inaugural Scholarship program's 2020 recipients, four young ladies.

2020-2021 Programs and Activities

  • August 2020 NDS-NCNW and PAGE collected items for our student's college care packages. 22 College Care Packages were delivered to students attending multiple Colleges and Universities: ECPI University, James Madison University, Kent State University, Norfolk State University, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Old Dominion University, Spelman College, University of Virginia, Virginia State University and Virginia Tech University.

  • August 2020 NDS focused on self-care during the pandemic, We shared information about Coronavirus and provided web links to the National Alliance on Mental Illness COVID-19 Resource and Information Guide.

  • September 24-27, 2020: Several NDS members (need #) attended the virtual 59th National Convention.

  • September 202, October 23, 2020, NDS members participated in Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink and taking a picture to post on social media.

  • On October 19, 2020, NDS launched our Twitter and Instagram accounts, allowing us to expand our reach.

  • On October 22, 2020, NDS shared information about Black Businesses that we can support during the pandemic.

  • October 31, 2020 NDS supported breast cancer awareness month by wearing ping. Over 13 ladies participated.

  • On November 4, 2020, NDS members showed their support for the election “Get The Vote Out” by taking pictures with their vote stickers.

  • November 11, 2020 NDS supported Prince William County Foster Futures Teen/Young Adult Program with gift card donations. Program January 24, 2021 Dr. Krystilyn Washington is a board certified ObGyn gave us a presentation filled with valuable information about Cervical Cancer.

  • December 2020 NDS began collecting warm items (gently used hats, scarves, gloves, blankets, socks, and coats) for December.  Provided below are the following shelters that we have contacted by way of having a phone conversation, along with their needs:

  • Hilda Barg Homeless Shelter—Prince William County: We are accepting only gently used coats. We donated the coats on Saturday, Jan. 9th, 2021, and they will then steam and clean the coats themselves.

  • The North County office for Embry Rucker Shelter—Fairfax County is accepting only gently used coats. We can donate coats on Saturday, Jan. 9th, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and there is no need to have them cleaned.

  • The Shelter House—Loudoun County: We are accepting everything that we are collecting. If we can, we also need women’s underwear. We can deliver at any time in January 2021.
