New Dominion Section: HerStory

2020-2021 Programs and Activities

NCNW 59th Convention: Several NDS members (approximately 12) attended the virtual 59th National Convention.

Community Service: The New Dominion Section of NCNW  implemented community outreach programs focused on the following service areas: Loudoun County, western Fairfax County, western Prince William County, and Fauquier County.

  • August 2020, NDS NCNW and PAGE collected items for our student’s college care packages. 22 college care Packages were delivered to students attending multiple Colleges and Universities.

​

  • November 11, 2020, NDS supported Prince William County Foster Futures Teen/Young Adult Program with gift card donations. 

​

  • December 2020, NDS Winter Warm’ish Drive began collecting warm items (gently used hats, scarves, gloves, blankets, socks, and coats). The following shelters were supported

    • Hilda Barg Homeless Shelter – Prince William County

    • The North County office for Embry Rucker Shelter – Fairfax County

    • The Shelter House – Loudoun County

  • March 2021, NDS Women Mean Business Donation Drive. 

 

  • June 2021, NDS celebrated Juneteenth with our View Park Section sisters of NCNW on the West Coast.

 

  • August 2021, NDS college care packages for college students.

Health and Nutrition: Health and nutrition activities are paramount to the productivity and growth of the African-American community. During the year we focused on overall women's health, clean eating habits, diabetes awareness, healthy heart education, and fitness, just to name a few.

​

  • August 2020 NDS focused on self-care during the pandemic.  We shared information about Coronavirus and provided web links to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

  • October 31, 2020, NDS supported breast cancer awareness month by wearing pink. Over 13 ladies participated.

  • January 24, 2021, Dr. Krystilyn Washington,  a board-certified ObGyn gave us a presentation filled with valuable information about Cervical Cancer.

2021-2022 Programs and Activities

 

 

  • December 2021, NCNW sections participated in Christmas Store as part of Good Health Wins.

 

  • March 2022,  NDS Self Care Kits to the women of Fauquier County’s Domestic Violence Advocacy Program.
